He has been recognized for his outstanding photography by the PPA achieving Loan Collection prints in 2003, 2004, 2006 and 2007 International Print Competitions. Charles has earned his Master of Photography degree from the PPA, and was recognized as the Silver Level Photographer of the Year.
Today, Charles concentrates on publishing his photography of landscape, cultural and heritage subjects. His photojournalism includes books and articles. His first book, Journey Across CHINA ,tells the story of disappearing traditions and places throughout China due to the modernization programs, the 2008 Olympics, and the construction of the Three Gorges Dam. " Journey" has been especially relevant to families who have adopted Chinese daughters and appreciate a visual heritage their children can cherish.
Also, in the vein of preserving our past, Charles wrote and photographed The Historic Firehouses of Cincinnati featuring over 30 remaining firehouses from the horse-drawn engine era. His love of history, art and architecture all come together through his photography of many of these restored buildings.
Arizona's Amazing Landscape is another expression of his respect for our natural landmarks in Arizona. Many of his photographs are hanging in new Southwestern homes. His photographs evoke the preservationist in people here and around the world.
Romantic Venice, The Traditional Craftsmen of the Gondola is his current book project. Charles has photographed each of the eleven traditional craftsmen who collectively build today's modern gondola. These craftsmen use ancient tools and techniques to create an amazing example of "form and function" on the canals of Venice.
Women of Accomplishment, The Cowgirls Historical Foundation is another current project. Charles is the licensed photographer for CHF and recently accepted the position of Vice President of the organization. Many of his photos are featured on this website.
